Biography.
After initially training as a Marine Biologist Marko has been a photographer for 19 years. He ran a portrait, commercial and fashion studio in Bath for almost a decade and his work has been published and exhibited nationally and internationally including several times in the Royal Photographic Society International Print Show.
Alongside his commercial work Marko has a dedicated practice as a Fine Art Photographer and has had solo shows at Whitewall Gallery in Milton Keynes and The University of Creative Arts, Farnham. His work has been regularly exhibited at Falmouth Art Gallery and is included in their collections. He was part of the prestigious Frameworks exhibition during which his image was hung alongside that of Thomas Gainsborough.
His exhibition “Portrait of Genius” featuring the world famous classical model Daphne Selfe was described as follows by Alison Nordstrom, the curator of The George Eastman Gallery, Rochester, USA. “I loved Marko Dutka’s Portrait of Genius, photos of striking eighty-something artist’s model Daphne Self after self-portraits by Titian, Dürer, Rembrandt and others. Dutka’s comments on gender and power are brilliantly embedded in his strong and beautifully lit images.”
Commercial clients include Vivienne Westwood, Selvedge Magazine, Thermae Bath Spa, Zagal Ltd and Dents.
Marko has won over 40 major awards for his photography since 2004 including finalist in The BPPA’s Fashion Photographer Award in 2006, The European Federation of Photographers in 2009 and Finalist in the MPA Nationals in 2006, 2009, 2017
Marko also lectures and judges on photography to a variety of professional organisations throughout Europe. He is a qualified judge for The Societies on both Qualification panels and monthly competitions and since 2017 on their annual International Print Competitions.
In 2017 he received The Societies’ Master Award.
He is also sponsored by Elinchrom at The Flash Centre.
He is currently working on a project called At the Going Down of the Sun in partnership with amongst others, Bristol Cathedral, The Royal British Legion, Commonwealth War Graves Commission and Bristol City Council.
